RAH Newcomers Weekend 2017
The RAH Newcomers Weekend is now a well-established event designed as a taster for those new to hunting (either horse, rider or on foot) but is equally challenging for ‘old hands’ wanting to polish up their skills!
Beginning on Friday evening, participants are invited to meet The Masters, Hunt Staff and RA Subscribers for a pint, pub supper and introduction to the weekend. Over the next two days participants enjoy a number of informative talks and practical demonstrations from some fantastic speakers in the Hunting fraternity covering topics such as staff roles, horn calls, hunting history and etiquette. On Saturday afternoon there’s a trip to The Hunt Kennels and then it’s time to put it all into practice with an afternoon of ‘Autumn Hunting’. Returning with the setting sun, participants are treated to one of the Hunt Supporters’ famous BBQs!
Sunday morning kicks off with a couple more guest speakers before a two-hour Cross Country session over the Larkhill BE Course (options for everyone!) with the encouragement and guidance of experienced Military Instructors, followed by Sunday Lunch and an opportunity to meet more faces from The Hunt.
WO1 Jerry Faulkner MFH, who ran the event in 2017, said “Over the 8 years that this Weekend has been running we have welcomed nearly 200 new faces to The Hunt. In 2017, we had 26 participants with a real International crowd—some travelling especially from the US and Australia to take part! The RAH really is such a welcoming hunt and there is always a fantastic atmosphere as “newbies” meet with the more experienced crowd and get welcomed into the hunting community.”
